After an exciting baseball season, the World Series is finally here. To get there, the Cleveland Indians took the Toronto Blue Jays in 5 games, and the Chicago Cubs knocked out the Los Angeles Dodgers in game 6. No matter which team you are pulling for, it has been a long time since either team has won a World Series. There have been multiple generations born that have not seen either team win a championship.
Let’s talk about the Chicago Cubs first. The last time the Cubs won the World Series, the year was 1908 and they defeated the Detroit Tigers. Thinking about that series brings up names of baseball greats that are nearly unknown to the modern generation. Names like Johnny Evers, Frank Chance, Frank Schulte, and Joe Tinker drove in the runs while Mordecai Brown and Orval Overall were masterful on the mound. These names are still whispered in the corridors of Wrigley Field, the Cubs ballpark. Seeing them win this series would mark 108 years since their last one.
The last time the Indians won the World Series was in 1948. They were led to victory by players like Bob Lemon, Dale Mitchell, Ken Keltner, Joe Gordon, Eddie Robinson, and Larry Doby. The Indians defeated the Braves in an exciting sixth game of the 1948 World Series. Surely, both the Indians and the Cubs will make this series one for the record books.
