The prize money for this series is comparable to the major tournaments, but it was designed with the idea of bringing golfers from other tours together on a more regular basis. In addition to money, the winner of one of these tournaments receives a three year PGA tour exemption.

Let’s take a look at the dates and locations this year.

  • March 3rd-6th
    • Trump National Doral
  • March 23rd – 27th
    • Austin Country Club
  • June 30th – July 3rd
    • Firestone CC (South)
  • October 27th – October 30th
    • Sheshan International GC

Now, we will speak briefly about the courses.

  1. Trump National Doral – Trump National Doral is a golf course and country club that was founded in 1962 by real estate mogul, Alfred Kaskel. Though it is part of Miami, Florida, the official location is called Doral, Florida. The name itself is a combination of Doris and Alfred Kaskel. Now owned by the Trump Corporation, this course has 90 holes, and the championship course is called the Blue Monster.
  2. Austin Country Club – This is a new site for the tournament, but the Austin Country Club was founded in 1899. However, the course used was designed by the legendary golf course designer, Pete Dye. He has such a reputation for course design that many refer to his creations as “Dye”-abolical (diabolical). Golfers really need to bring their A game when playing one of his courses.
  3. Firestone Country Club – Located in Akron, Ohio, this course is one of the most well known of the series. Created by Harvey Firestone in 1929 for employees of the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, this course has seen a few re-designs, with the most recent occurring in 1985. To this day, it remains to be the only course to host 3 televised golf events in the same year.
  4. Sheshan International Golf Club – This club is the host of the HSBC Championships, which is the last in the series for the WGC. Located in Shanghai, China, this beautiful course has quite a few difficult holes, and it usually proves to be a challenge to top contenders. Last year, the tournament leader Russell Knox finished the last round four strokes under par to win the event.
