TBS originated as a broadcast channel on the American frequency of UHF channel 17 as an independent station in Atlanta, Georgia. It officially signed on the air in 1967 and was purchased by Ted Turner in 1970. The station became known for showing classic movies from the 30s and 40s, as well as classic TV shows like Father Knows Best, Green Acres, I Love Lucy, and more.

Turner also took some heat in the 80s and 90s for colorizing classic black and white movies and putting them on his network. He colorized so many movies that we can not begin to list them here. Though some liked the changes made, there was definitely some backlash to doing it. In modern times, the station is a mixture of original television comedies as well as reruns of sitcoms originally shown on the big 4 American networks.

TBS has its’ own app and you can watch it live online for free. Since it is a paid channel, you need to have access to a cable or satellite subscription and you must be located in the United States or US territories. That is where using a VPN will help you.

If you already have an account and are traveling abroad, you will need to connect to a VPN in the US to enjoy the network. If you don’t have access to a cable or satellite subscription, there are some streaming services like PSVue and Hulu Live TV that offer the channel. One of the advantages of using a VPN is to help you get around geo-blocks.

Media companies impose blockades by using IP based software. That stops people outside of the targeted area from viewing the content. Much of the time, that is due to licensing issues. When you connect to a VPN, you can create a secured, encrypted connection to a server in the US. That will help you avoid any geo-restrictions.
