Seeso is a new over the top (OTT) video streaming service being offered by NBC / Universal that focuses on comedy. NBC is known for great comedians. Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, and The Tonight Show are just a few of the shows that have made NBC a popular choice of comedy fans around the world. The new Seeso service gives members the opportunity to binge watch comedy favorites along with originals. The service is only available in the United States. Those outside the USA are geo blocked. Fortunately you can connect to a VPN in the US to watch Seeso from anywhere in the world.
Seeso is currently in beta. The service is free to test from December 3 until January 6th. When Seeso officially launches on Jan. 7, 2016 the streaming service will cost $3.99 a month. NBC hasn’t released that much information yet but here’s what we know so far. Seeso will feature popular shows like Saturday Night Live, The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Office, Parks and Recreation. Seeso will also feature an original series with Amy Poehler, HarmonQuest animated series, and a stand up show from Wyatt Cenac. Just to name a few.
Let’s see what happens when you try to sign up for Seeso from outside the United States:
As you might expect, even the geo blocking message is funny. Seeso let’s you know that “It’s not you, it’s us. Looks like you’re outside of the US. Good for you, bad for Seeso as our video content can only be streamed within the United States”. The key to streaming Seeso from outside the US it to connect to a VPN server in the country. Once you connect to a VPN server in the USA, the Seeso site will no longer be blocked. You will be able to sign up for an account and enjoy streaming your favorite comedy shows and movies on Seeso from anywhere.

How to Use a VPN to Watch Seeso
I’ll use IPVanish for the example of how to use a VPN service to watch your favorite comedians on Seeso. First you’ll want to download their client. IPVanish offers free software for Windows, Mac and Linux. In addition to free apps for iOS and Android.
Now that you’ve had a chance to download and install the software it’s time to connect. Launch the IPVanish client and select a server location. We’ll walk you through step by step using their Windows client.
- Select a server location. My favorites in the USA include Ashburn, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, and Phoenix.
- We recommend you select OpenVPN (TCP) or (UDP). For streaming videos from sites like HBO Now we use OpenVPN (UDP). They also support PPTP and L2TP. We still recommend OpenVPN for the best privacy protection.
- Click connect. After a few seconds you’ll see the button at the top change to green and show “Disconnect”. You’ll also notice the server location and IP address show up at the top of the client.
- Once you connect you will be located in the US as far as anyone can tell online. As such we can reach any site as if sitting in Atlanta or whichever server location you chose. The same is true if you connect to a server in the UK or anywhere else in the world.
That’s all there is to it. Now that you have an IP address from the IPVanish server in the US you can browse the Internet as if you were actually there. Connecting to a server in the UK would give you full access to geo blocked sites there as well. The same is true from any country.
As you can probably tell by now a good VPN opens access to content around the world. If you live outside the United States the service can help you access popular services like Netflix, Hulu, HBO NOW, and Amazon Instant. You still need an account for services like Netflix but the VPN will help you watch US television shows and movies as if you were sitting in the United States.
