The Royal Rumble is a live, professional wrestling event produced by an organization called World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). This battle features 30 different wrestlers in a free for all style of match, with the winner usually receiving a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match up at another event, Wrestlemania. However in 2016, the CEO of WWE, Vince McMahon, announced that the current champion, Roman Reigns, would be defending his title in the Royal Rumble. This marks a notable change in the structure of the event, and promises to make the WWE Royal Rumble an exciting match. If you live in the US, you have the option of streaming the event live online with the WWE Network. If you live outside the US or plan on traveling abroad, you will need a VPN to help you watch this event.

From it’s humble roots in the ’80s, the organization formerly called the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and now called the WWE has grown in to a multi-million dollar organization. There were periodic questions during it’s first decade about the validity of the matches it presented. Many speculated that these “sporting events” were actually scripted. The topic on whether or not professional wrestling was real became such a hot button issue, that the ABC reporter, John Stossel, did an exposé on the topic in late 1984. In a now infamous interview, Stossel spoke with a professional wrestler named David Schultz and asked him if professional wrestling was fake. Schultz responded by slapping Mr. Stossel to the ground.
In 1989, Vince McMahon officially let the truth be known because if it was real, he faced taxes from athletic commissions. With his statement, he re-categorized the WWF as sports entertainment where sports actors followed pre-scripted material and story lines. After a rebranding in 2002, the federation became World Wrestling Entertainment. Despite the allegations, McManon has done a terrific job of marketing, and the Royal Rumble is one of four major events a year that are available on Pay-Per-View as a premium television addon. This year marks the 29th edition of this match, and there are guaranteed to be surprises in the event.
That is because the writers for WWE make sure to entertain the television audience as well as the live audience, when the events are held live. As we mentioned, these matches are also available online on the WWE Network. That is an online streaming service that is available to residents of the US and UK. If you are not in one of those countries, you can still watch the network, providing you have a valid subscription to the service. If you don’t, you can obtain one by using a VPN and selecting a server in one of those countries. Once you get to that stage, let’s discuss how you would watch the channel live from anywhere.
Don’t miss a moment of the excitement during the WWE Royal Rumble. Watch to see if Roman Reigns will keep his title, or if the writers have something else in mind.
