Internet Kill Switch from PureVPN

Last week PureVPN announced a new feature to allow members to kill their Internet connection anytime the VPN fails.  Normally when you hear the term “Internet Kill Switch” it applies to a country that tries to disable the communication of their citizens.  Normally that would be a country in turmoil that is trying to stop protesters and opposition groups from organizing.  We’ve seen it happen several times over the years.

PureVPN Internet Kill Switch

PureVPN had other purposes in mind.  An Internet Kill Switch feature was one of the top suggestions from their customers.  The idea is to have your Internet connection stop working anytime the VPN disconnects.  Either by accident or when you manually close the VPN.  The same applies when switching server locations.  The kill switch disables your Internet until you connect to another PureVPN server.

Here’s a quick explanation from Uzair Gadit, the founder of PureVPN:

This innovative technology ensures data privacy and security of all users by halting all internet activity when the VPN disconnects. It resumes normal internet activity once the VPN reconnects automatically.

Enable the PureVPN Internet Kill Switch

The new feature is easy to activate.  Simply follow these steps:

  1. Open the PureVPN Windows dialer and click on Settings
  2. Under security check Activate Internet Kill Switch
  3. Select whether or not you want the software to auto-redial if your VPN connection drops.
  4. Select whether or not to stop your Internet when you manually end a VPN connection.

If you want to ensure privacy anytime your online then I suggest you check the box to stop your Internet when you manually end a VPN connection.  That way whether you disconnect by accident or by choice the traffic will stay encrypted.  This has many applications.  Everything from protecting your system from hackers to those who enjoy file sharing.  I’m sure Torrent users will like the new feature.

PureVPN’s Internet Kill Switch feature is currently in beta.  All members have free access.  In addition they’ve added some optional add-ons including NAT firewall and dedicated IP that you might find helpful.  New members can take advantage of their current offer to save 65% off unlimited, uncapped VPN service.  Prices start at $4.16 a month.
