Paris-Roubaix is a one-day professional bicycle race in northern France. It starts just north of Paris and finishes in Roubaix, on the Belgium border. It’s famous for its rough terrain and cobblestone roads. Over the many years, some have given it nicknames like the Hell of the North, Queen of the Classics, The Easter Race, A Sunday in Hell, and L’enfer du Nord. Starting in 1896, Paris-Roubaix is one of the oldest races in professional road cycling. Though organizers have changed the route over time, it has been in the same areas since 1977. With the exception of the world wars and 2020 due to covid-19, the race has happened every year since the beginning. Cobblestones are part of this race, and winners since 1977 have a mounted cobble to commemorate the event.
