Papua New Guinea is an island nation located just below the equator that occupies half of the island of New Guinea. Their territory includes several small islands as well. The country is widely known for it’s biological diversity with features like inland active volcanoes, rain forests, beaches, and coral reefs. Port Moresby is the capitol city in PNG and is home to some 7.3 million people.  As mentioned earlier, it is also the location of the Pacific Games.

Let’s have a look at the countries competing in the games.

A few of the events in the games are boxing, cricket, outrigger canoeing, sailing, shooting, volleyball, basketball, and quite a few more. Some interesting things about the 2015 games are the addition of some para-events, womens’ boxing, and the football (soccer) matches will be a qualifier for the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Generally when countries host the Olympics, they make money. That said, the Pacific Games have been known to have the opposite effect and sometimes leave the host country in debt because of infrastructure investments. Through a premium TV contract with Click Pacific Limited, PNG hopes to stem the tide and make this a profitable venture. Click will offer coverage in HD for up to 24 hours a day. The lead broadcaster with exclusive opening and closing ceremony rights however, will be EMTV. They are a free channel that will broadcast the games at the same time as Click Pacific Limited. EMTV plans to stream the games through the internet and with the app. These games will be blocked outside of the islands, so to view coverage, you would need a to use a VPN service.
