The Indianapolis 500 is one of the oldest auto races in the US. The sanctioning body for the race, known as CART, started in 1979 and folded in 2003. However, in 1995, they sanctioned the Indycar series. That is the US version of open-wheel racing. This year, the Indycar Series is celebrating its 27th year. There are a total of 17 races beginning on February 27th, 2022 and ending September 11th, 2022.
