The Epsom Derby is the richest, most prestigious, and one of the oldest of the five classic races in England. This year, the 239th annual running of the horse race known as the Derby will take place on June 2nd, 2018 at the Epsom Downs Racecourse. NBCSN and ITV will both broadcast the event on that day. If you live in the US and have a cable or satellite subscription, you can enjoy the coverage there. If you live in the UK, you won’t have any issues with the ITV version. However, if you do not have access to either or are traveling, you will need to use a VPN.
The Epsom Derby originated as a celebration following the first running of the Oaks Stakes in 1779. In 1780, the Jockey Club held the inaugural running of the Epsom Derby. Diomed, the winner of the first race, won £1,065 and 15 s for the victory.
Today, the Epsom Downs Racecourse hosts the one mile, four furlongs and 6 yards (2,420 meters) race. The Jockey Club still owns the course, and it is officially called the Investec Epsom Derby. It is interesting to note that the prize money amount is not fixed. However, the winner received at least £1.5 million. That number can vary based on several factors.
NBC will be televising the Epsom Derby on Saturday. You can watch online through the NBC Sports Live Extra site. If you plan to be outside the US for the race then I would recommend using a VPN. Otherwise, NBC may block access to the stream based on the location of your IP address. A VPN will take care of that by assigning you an IP address in the United States.
If you live in the UK, you can enjoy the coverage on ITV. Of course, you will still have the blocking issues we mentioned earlier. All you have to do is follow the same procedures.
