AT&T is launching DirecTV Now as a way to regain market share. As more TV viewers are moving towards streaming services instead of using traditional means, media companies are scrambling to stay afloat. Like other services such as Sling TV, DirecTV Now is aimed at cord-cutters. That is a growing group of people that are dumping traditional TV providers for streaming services. DirecTV Now offers more than 100 channels for $35 a month. In comparison, Sling TV offers 50 channels for $40 a month and Playstation Vue’s premium package offers 100+ channels costs $55. Given those figures, its not hard to see why DirecTV Now is popular.

The unfortunate part about DirecTV Now is the number of simultaneous streams they allow. At only one or two streams per account, it can make things difficult if you have multiple devices you want to use. It is possible that the number of streams will increase as time goes on. If you are an AT&T mobile customer, DirecTV Now is a good deal. You can stream the service as much as you like without it counting against your data plan. If you are not with AT&T mobile, it could quickly use up your data plan.
There are several noteworthy channels that will be offered in the package. Those include HBO, ESPN, Disney, ABC, and Cinemax. As you can see, there are many options available to watch. The question is, will the interface be as easy to use as Hulu or Netflix.
If you live in the US, this is a great service. What happens if you are traveling abroad or you don’t live in the US? Then we would suggest using a VPN. That is because you would be blocked from using the service outside of the states. Make sure when you sign up, you are connected to a server located in the US.
Which type of service you choose depends on your goals. There are some good suggestions we have that will make things simple. If your goal is to only make sure you can watch all the channels, have a look at ExpressVPN MediaStreamer (Smart DNS) service that will help you unblock any geo-restrictions you may encounter without any encryption overhead. If your goal is more security oriented, you’ll want to use the custom ExpressVPN client to connect to their large VPN network. They have a kill switch feature, and they do not keep any activity logs. Both services are included with the ExpressVPN account.
Both of these options will still unblock content. The ones we just mentioned are great options as well as the five we mentioned earlier. We chose them based on speed, server locations, reliability, functionality, and even price. You’ll also want to make sure you can easily connect and stream before you travel.
