The British Open, often just called “The Open” is the third of four major PGA events during a year. It is also the oldest and the only event to be played outside the USA. This year, the 148th Open will be played from July 18th – July 21st on the Royal Portrush Gold Club. Several years ago, this exciting event ended in a four-hole playoff. This tournament is always exciting, no matter where it is played. There are several coverage options. Watch the British Open from anywhere live, online with a VPN.

British Open Highlights
Though not quite as old as the old course at St. Andrews, Royal Portrush has some history of its own. It hosted the first British Open to take place outside the island of Great Britain in 1951. It is set to host the Open in 2019 and two more times by 2040. The Dunluce Links will host the 2019 British Open and is widely known as one of the best golf courses in the world.
Rory McIlroy, the Scottish-born golfer, will be hungry for a win at this course because it is his home country. He is without a doubt, one of the best golfers in the world, at this time. McIlroy has won all four major tournaments and is very much a force to be reckoned with, having a career grand slam (winning all 4 major tournaments). Though this links-style course may give him an advantage, there are other golfers that will surely give him a run for his money.
Jason Day from Australia is a 30-year-old golfer. He is currently ranked highly in the world ranks. Clearly, this Aussie will give McIlroy a run for his money. Like many others, Day has been professional since he turned 18. Being a veteran of the sport gives him an advantage perhaps over other golfers that have not been playing for many years.
Rickie Fowler will approach the Open with the hope of beating his personal best in the tournament. This 2010 rookie of the year hopes to win his first major and start a long career of wins like other golfers. The 29-year-old from California will give it his best shot, but he will have to contend with the other golfers.
This year, Sky Sports and NBC are the two major sources of coverage for this tournament. For the U.K. coverage:

Here is the schedule for US watchers.

Of course, these times are subject to change. As you can see, the coverage for the US is on NBC Sports. If you are planning on watching this tournament with US coverage, you would need to have a paid subscription to a cable or satellite service. Great, but what if you are outside the US or do not have one of those subscriptions? That is when a good VPN service would come into play.
Using A VPN will do two things for you. Connecting to one will encrypt your data. It will also give you access to channels that would be blocked due to geo-restrictions. Geo-restriction is a technology used to identify where a user is located and block them based on IP address. By using a VPN, you can watch the tournament on Sky Sports if you wanted to among doing other things. We have some great suggestions for you in regards to which service to pick.
