Best VPNs for Poland

PolandPoland is a country located in Central Europe. It has long had a tumultous history, and this country of 38 million finally broke it’s communist ties in 1989.  Despite the fact that it is bordered by Germany, the rules there are dramatically different. The Polish government has tried to geo-block access to some political websites in the past, but that was abandoned. Other sites have been blocked since though. Because of that reason and a few others, using a VPN is a good idea.

Though Poland supposedly does not monitor it’s citizens, that does not stop the government from trying to gain access to users’ data. They are are second only to Hungary to flawed government requests for data. What that means is that out of the number of requests that Google received from the Polish government to turn over data on it’s users, only 11% of those requests were accurate regarding local laws. Knowing this, if you were traveling to, or living in Poland, you would not want to use the internet without a VPN.

From an anti-piracy point of view, the government has begun to take action in some form on online piracy by closing down websites and arresting people. The threat of jail time can be a deterrent, but the question becomes, is this only for show, or is the government really trying to make a difference? Those questions are ones for the future. Prior to this year, the government did not seem terribly interested in banning piracy outright or blocking pirate websites.

In mentioning VPNs, let’s discuss why you would want to use one. The first reason is for privacy. A VPN creates an encrypted connection to a server, possibly in another country. Because of that, your web browsing would be secure and the only thing that would be revealed some amount of encrypted traffic. This way, you can keep it safe from intrusive eyes, whether from the government or any other source. There are many  out there that would love to get their hands on your personal data.

That leads us to another good reason to use a VPN. By connecting to another country, you could get access to things that would normally be geo-restricted by companies. Let’s say you wanted to steam Netflix, or any other popular streaming service. If is not available in your area, you would be blocked because of licensing reasons. However, if you connect to a country that has access, You would be able to enjoy whatever content you wanted to. Of course, if you are going to use Netflix, you would need a subscription and a VPN as well. Even if Netflix was available in Poland, keeping the VPN would not be a bad idea. You could connect to countries that have a bigger selection of titles and not be limited by your location.

As you can see, there some good reasons to use a VPN, but which one? The best VPN for your use depends on what you want to do with it. We do have some ideas for Poland, however. Though our options all use secure encryption, using the OpenVPN protocol would be your best decision whenever possible. If you are going to use a streaming service, OpenVPN (UDP) would be your best choice. To stream or connect to a VPN by using a mobile network, you could also look into other protocols including IKEv2 and L2TP for privacy protection.

If you want to protect your privacy or unblock content, you should choose ExpressVPN. They don’t keep logs and have a kill switch feature, so it insures your web browsing is protected against prying eyes. If you want use streaming services like Netflix or others, ExpressVPN again is the best choice. With more and more people using mobile devices in Poland as their primary way to browse, the mobile client is worth investigating. They also have a fast, reliable network, so you would only need to connect, and you would be able to stream from the countries with large content libraries.

If you are planning to just unblock geo-restricted content, we recommend ExpressVPN or PIA. Both of these services offer internet traffic encryption, but ExpressVPN includes MediaStreamer SmartDNS with their VPN which will help you unblock channels without the slight speed loss. We would never recommend giving up privacy for speed though. As long as the speed still allows you to do what you wish without  too many problems, any benefit you would lose from overhead, would be made up for in security. The choice is yours, but that is our advice.

please check out our top 10 VPN services if you want different options, but we think you will be ok with these choices. We have picked the choices here because they are the best overall. These selections we chosen because of security, speed, regional locations, and price. In addition, we also picked the ones with large networks of servers you may wish to connect to around the EU.
