Netflix offers all kinds of movies like Men In Black 2, Top Gun, and Hunger Games Catching Fire.  It also has a lot of popular shows in the USA like The Office, Family Guy, Futurama, Raising Hope, Jessie, multiple Pokemon and Power Ranger series, Parks and Recreation, Dr. Who,  and Sherlock. In the UK they have popular movies including Cinderella, Happy Gilmore, Star Trek into Darkness, and Wreck it Ralph. In the UK they have popular shows like Suits, DareDevil, and Derek. In Canada Netflix carries movies like Pulp Fiction, Old Boy, and Battle Royal. Some popular shows for Canada are Dexter, Breaking Bad, and Dragons Den.  Netflix can sometimes be behind is seasons for popular shows that are still going on today, but they have plenty of shows and movies to satisfy members binge viewing needs.

When I think of streaming services in the UK the first thing that comes to mind is BBC iPlayer.  Netflix certainly didn’t want to leave the UK out of the mix.  They expanded into the United Kingdom as their first European offering on January 4, 2012.  Netflix made sure to look at members viewing habits to learn their likes and dislikes.  This allowed them to go out and find suitable additions to the service.  In 2013 Netflix added content from BBC, ITV, and Channel 4.  By the end of 2014 Netflix had more than 3 million subscribers in the UK.  The service is priced at £6.99 for a month for HD or £8.99 a month to stream 4K content.

I would have guessed that the UK would have the second or perhaps third largest library of content.  Instead they rank #7 behind the US, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Colombia with just under 2,800 titles to choose from.  That’s just over a third of the US count.  As I mentioned UK viewers have access to content tailored to the region including BBC, ITV, and Channel 4.  This is a popular Netflix region for VPN users around the world who want to view popular UK shows.

Netflix Canada – 3,700 Titles

Canadian viewers officially gained access to Netflix on September 22, 2010.  They have the second largest library with over 3,700 titles.  That includes exclusive shows like Dragon’s Den.  As with other regions, Canadians can watch some movies and shows that aren’t available elsewhere.  However, they lack content that is in other regions.  A good VPN will let you switch to any Netflix region and enjoy those titles without any geo restrictions.

Netflix Australia – 1,500 Titles

Australians gained access to Netflix in March, 2015.  In reality there were already hundreds of thousands of Aussies using VPN to watch in other regions.  Even though Netflix is available in Australia the content library is small.  They have around 1,500 titles.  That doesn’t compare well to the 7,500 titles available in the United States.  The service is also more expensive in Australia with plans ranging from $8.99 to $14.99 a month.  Its priced below their rivals in that region – Stan, Presto, and Quickflix.

Netflix Austria – 1,600 Titles

Those in Austria gained access to Netflix in September, 2014.  The launch coincided with a handful of countries in Europe.  Austria has a relatively small content library with only 1,600 titles.  Prices for Netflix Austria start at €8.99 a month and go up to €11.99 per month for those who want to stream in 4K.  The service is more expensive than its US counterpart and includes only about 20% of the content.  A good VPN will take care of that problem.

Netflix Belgium – 1,800 Titles

Belgium was another European country to get Netflix in September, 2014.  They have a slightly larger library than Austria with almost 1,800 titles.  That’s still far below the 7,500 available in the United States.  Once again the price is €8.99 to €11.99 a month depending on whether you plan to watch 4K content.  The higher plan also gets you more simultaneous connections.

Netflix Brazil – 3,600 Titles

Brazil was the first country in Latin America to enjoy their own Netflix library.  The service launched on September 5, 2011 and is priced at $BR14.99 a month.  Brazil has a larger content library than most countries with over 3,600 titles.  That’s far smaller than the US library but almost twice the titles available in most European countries.  They have the largest library in South America and the third highest count of any region.

Netflix Colombia – 2,900 Titles

Colombia joined a series of Latin American countries when Netflix launched on September 9, 2011.  The region includes about 2,900 titles which is in line with Argentina.  Brazil has the highest content count in the region with over 3,600 titles.  As with other Netflix regions, Colombians lack access to popular shows and movies that are available in the United States.  Many members continue to use VPN to enjoy their favorite content.

Netflix Denmark – 2,200 Titles

Netflix expanded their streaming service into Denmark in September, 2012.  There isn’t a lot to add about Denmark that isn’t true of other European countries.  The Netflix library for Denmark includes 2,200 titles.  The price of the service is 75 DKR which equates to around $12 a month.  The price is quite a bit higher than the US version with a smaller library of movies and television shows to choose from.

Netflix Finland – 2,100 Titles

Netflex Finland also launched in September, 2012.  The regional library includes 2,100 titles.  That’s very similar to the other European countries.  The service is priced at €7.99 a month.  That’s €1 less than Austria and Belgium.  For a short time in October, 2012 Netflix had a fansub of Andromeda but they quickly pulled it from the library.  Otherwise there isn’t much notable about their content compared to other nearby regions.

Netflix France – 1,650 Titles

France also joined the Netflix fold in September, 2012.  They have a smaller library then some European countries with around 1,650 titles.  In the beginning France was concerned that introducing Netflix would ruin the countries focus on culture.  In response Netflix developed an original called Marseille which is a remake of their popular House of Cards series.  Netflix France is priced at €7.99 a month.  Not a bad price but their content library is lacking compared to nearly five times the titles in the USA.

Netflix Germany – 1,600 Titles

German viewers gained access to their own Netflix library in September, 2012 along with five other countries in Europe.  The German Netflix library contains around 1,600 titles. The service costs €7.99 a month.  Netflix is competitive with Amazon Instant Video charging the same price.  Their other German competitor, Watchever, costs €8.99  a month.  As with the other European countries, Netflix doesn’t offer much of a selection.

Netflix Ireland – 2,400 Titles

Netflix launched in Ireland at the same time as the UK.  Irish viewers were able to join Netflix starting on January 4, 2012.  Their content library is closer to the UK than other European countries with over 2,400 titles.  It’s priced higher at €9 per month.  They also have a budget plan for €8 per month that excludes high definition streams and only allows one connection.  That means you can’t watch on two devices simultaneously.

Netflix Luxembourg – 1,500 Titles

Luxembourg joined the Netflix experience on September 19, 2014.  Like many other European countries they have a small library of content compared to other areas of the world.  Members have access to 1,500 movies and tv shows.  The service is priced at €8.99 a month.  They also have a plan for €11.99 a month that includes 4K streaming.  Members in Luxembourg could definitely benefit from using a VPN to watch content in other regions.

Netflix Mexico – 3,000 Titles

Mexico was an early addition to the Netflix roster.  The fans of the service were able to officially join on September 12, 2011.  Mexico has one of the largest content libraries with over 3,000 titles.  They are just a few hundred titles behind Brazil and Canada.  Mexico has about 200 more titles than UK viewers.  Of course they still fall well behind the US with less than half as many shows and movies available.  The service is priced at 99 pesos a month.

On September 11, 2013 Netflix launched in the Netherlands.  Netflix took a very smart approach in looking at the BitTorrent networks to find the most popular shows and movies being downloaded.  They knew that offering a legal alternative would benefit customers and they bet big by paying over $3 billion for additional content that year.  In the following quarter Netflix grew their European customer base faster than the US for the first time ever.  Their bet should continue to pay off for years to come.

Netflix New Zealand – 1,450 Titles
