This year is a time of transition for Apple when it comes to their ambitions to change the way we all view television. I’m excited to hear what they have planned. If the news is true you can expect a new Apple TV to be introduced during their Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) which takes place June 8-12 in San Francisco. The rumor is that Apple plans to roll out a new media player and a much anticipated Apple TV streaming service. In a moment I’ll present three VPNs that work great with Apple TV.
Rank | VPN Service | Rating | Server Locations | Visit |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 9.8 | 160 | ||
2 | 9.4 | 87 | ||
3 | 9.2 | 95 |
The new Apple TV streaming service is expected to offer a wide range of US television channels. They are also negotiating with broadcasters to offer local ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox coverage. If successful Apple will have the best alternative to cable and satellite. There is still the question of how much the service will cost but we would imagine the price will make it appealing for those looking to cut the cord. Their channel selection will put pressure on streaming services like Sling TV and Hulu.
Everything we’ve talked about so far is the future of Apple TV. Let’s take a minute to talk about where the set top box is right now. Apple partnered with HBO to help launch their HBO Now service in April. At the same time they dropped the price of Apple TV media players from $99 down to $69. That makes it a great time to purchase if you want a value. It’s only fair to mention that they will likely have a new product out later this year but you can expect the price tag to be higher once released.
Whether we’re talking about the current Apple TV or what the company has in store for the future, users around the world will benefit from using a VPN. I know several expats that rely on VPN to enjoy their favorite streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Instant. They can also enjoy HBO Now through Apple TV. The key is being able to access the services through a US IP address. A VPN will take care of that. You can simply connect to a server in the US and enjoy content as if you were there.
How does a VPN work with Apple TV? That’s a good question since the Apple TV and many other set top boxes, game consoles, etc. do not natively support VPN. Fortunately there is a way to run every device on your network through a VPN. The answer is to configure your router to run through the VPN. You can do it yourself or purchase a router pre-configured from FlashRouters. All three of the VPN providers I’m about to recommend support and encourage the use of VPN through your router.
1. Best VPN for Apple TV: ExpressVPN

When it comes to keeping yourself safe, ExpressVPN is one of the best choices you can make. Whether you are looking for secure encryption protocols, privacy protection features, a strict no-logs policy, or other things, you will find them all with this provider. Additionally, if you have ever had an issue creating a secure password, you are in luck. ExpressVPN has a random password generator on their website that will help you do so. It can generate multiple passwords, and you can securely download the generator page if you wish to use it offline.
2. Best VPN for Apple TV: NordVPN
If you are concerned about getting everything set up with NordVPN, you are in luck. While they have great how-to pages and guides to set everything up correctly, they still offer you their 24/7 support network. The website states that they will respond in 24 hours if you decide to email them. If you need a faster response, they give you the option of chatting with someone live. That is perfect for those pressing questions you may have.
3. Best VPN for Apple TV: PIA
If you are a big sports fan, you may find yourself watching sports you would have never thought of watching previously. While that may not be true for all, many have discovered that to be the case. For everyone that has developed a fondness for other sports than the normal, connecting to a VPN server from Private Internet Access is a good idea. By doing so, you don’t have to miss out on some of your new favorite sports and can cheer on the participants.
