The American Broadcasting Company (ABC) was founded in 1943 as a radio network. It was not until 1948 that the TV network was created. Through the years, the network has seen numerous changes and has changed its’ focus a few times. Currently, most of the network assets are owned by Disney and were acquired in 1996.

The first ties to Disney with the network actually go back to 1953. They agreed to help finance part of Disneyland in exchange for some programming. When the park opened in 1955, ABC aired a special live broadcast from the park. They also made two programs for the network in 1955 that made the network profitable for the first time.

Even though the channel is free to air normally, you must be a US resident and have one of those types of services to enjoy it online. As we mentioned, if you are traveling abroad, you would be stopped from seeing it. That is where the VPN comes in. Once you sign up for the VPN service, you would need to connect to a server located in the US to gain access. Then, you can enjoy your favorite ABC programming

When choosing a VPN service, you need to determine your goals. There are some good suggestions we have that will make things simple. If your goal is to just make sure you can watch all the all of your favorite sports, you’ll want to take a look at OverPlay. They offer a Smart DNS service that will help you unblock any geo-restrictions that would prevent you from seeing the channel without the overhead of encryption. If your goal is more security oriented, you’ll want to check out IPVanish. They have a kill switch feature, and they do not keep any activity logs.

Both of these options will unblock content. The ones we just mentioned are great options. We chose them based on speed, functionality, server locations, reliability, and price. Be sure you can easily connect and stream to the US before you travel. Feel free to check out our top 10 VPN services list for other choices if you want more options.
