Watch The Ashes Cricket Live Online

The Ashes will give England a chance to even the series at 32 wins each with five draws.  They have their work cut out for them as Australia has back to back victories in the last two cricket series.  The 2015 series will be held in England so perhaps home field advantage will give them the edge to even things up this year.  The first matches will take place on July 8-12 with the final matches bring held on August 20-24 in London.  Watch all the excitement from anywhere in the world with a VPN.

The Ashes

The Ashes will be held across several venues in the United Kingdom.  Let’s take a look at the host venue for each set of matches.

  • Test 1 – Sophia Gardens, Cardiff – July 8 to 12
  • Test 2 – Lord’s, London – July 16 to 20
  • Test 3 – Edgbaston, Birmingham – July 29 to Aug. 2
  • Test 4 – Trent Bridge – Nottingham – Aug. 6 to 10
  • Test 5 – The Oval, London – Aug. 20 to 24

As you might guess given the popularity of cricket on the world stage, there will be some large broadcasters covering the event.  If you are currently outside the viewing area I would suggest using a VPN to sign up for a Sky Sports Pass from NOW TV.  They offer daily passes for £6.99 or weekly passes for £10.99.  I would recommend getting week passes to watch The Ashes.  You will still need to connect to a VPN in the UK to watch Sky Sports coverage of The Ashes.  Otherwise you will be geo-blocked.

In addition to watching The Ashes on Sky Sports, you can also listen to coverage on BBC Radio 5 in the UK and ABC Radio in Australia.  Channel 5 will provide daily highlights during the event.  For those old school Internet users you can also get text coverage from the BBC Sport website and ESPN Cricinfo.  Australian viewers can catch all the action on the Nine Network.  Aussie fans can also download the Cricket Australia Live mobile app for iOS or Android.  You can get coverage through the app for $4.99 a day or $29.99 a year.  In this case you would need an annual subscription to enjoy The Ashes series.

How to Use a VPN to Watch The Ashes

I’ll use IPVanish for the example of how to use a VPN service to watch the cricket tournament.  First you’ll want to download the VPN client.  IPVanish offers free client software for Windows, Mac and Linux.  In addition to free apps for iOS and Android.

Now that you’ve had a chance to download and install the software it’s time to connect.  Launch the IPVanish client and select a server location.  We’ll walk you through step by step using their Windows client.

IPVanish Windows client v2.0

  • Select a server location. If you want to watch Sky Sports coverage of The Ashes, you should pick a location in the UK.
  • We recommend you select OpenVPN (TCP) or (UDP).  For streaming videos from sites like YouTube we use OpenVPN (UDP).  They also support PPTP and L2TP.  We still recommend OpenVPN for the best privacy protection.
  • Click connect.  After a few seconds you’ll see the button at the top change to green and show “Disconnect”.  You’ll also notice the server location and IP address show up at the top of the client.
  • We would now located in the UK as far as anyone can tell online.  As such we can reach any site as if sitting in London. That applies as well as if we connected to a server in the US or anywhere else in the world.

That’s all there is to it.  Now that you have an IP address from the IPVanish server in the United Kingdom,  you can browse the Internet as if you were actually there.  The same is true from any country.  Connect to a server in the United Kingdom to watch Sky Sports or Australia to watch coverage in that region.

As you can probably tell by now a good VPN opens access to content around the world. If you live outside the United States the service can help you access popular services like Netflix, Hulu and Pandora. You still need an account for services like Netflix but the VPN will help you watch US television shows and movies on Netflix as if you were sitting in the United States or any other region you would like to access.

Enjoy all the excitement of 2015 The Ashes, and see if England can even up the series. Please share this post with your friends so they can enjoy the cricket series from anywhere in the world with a VPN.  Follow us @VPNFan for the latest deals and guides.
