While they were supposed to be held in 2020, the 32nd Olympiad will still be held in Tokyo. However, the new dates begin on Friday, July 21st, 2021, and will finish up on Sunday, August 8th, 2021. Despite being a year late (because of the pandemic), many athletes and spectators are looking forward to these games. While the games draw competitors from 207 nations globally, no one from outside the country is allowed to attend the events. Of course, most countries will have their own coverage of the events. If you are not going to be in the country you want to watch coverage in, you may use a VPN to watch the Olympic Games live online from anywhere in the world. Here are a few of our favorites.
Both the Summer and Winter Olympics have had their idols over the years. Part of what makes the games great is the stories behind the athletes. For example, Kirani James is a good symbol as the gold medal winner of the 2012 men’s 400 meters. He brought home Grenada’s first gold medal ever in any sport. He has a great story, and it is always nice to hear about the gems.
Kirani made it clear that since he got the Olympic gold medal, he was going to continue to compete at a high level. Though this does not mean that you will see a surge of athletes from Grenada winning medals in other sports, especially in the Tokyo Games, he will inspire others. Stories of other greats like Mary Lou Retton from the 1984 Olympics, Florence Griffith Joiner (Flo-Jo), Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards, and even the Jamaican Bobsled Team have won the hearts of millions and made those athletes household names and heroes.
With almost every country in the world present, there are great stories in the XXXII Summer Olympic Games. Though the Tokyo Games will be covered worldwide, we realize that many may want to watch coverage from a specific region or area. Because of that, let’s take a look at some of the channels that will have coverage.
- United States – NBC
- United Kingdom – BBC, Eurosport
- Australia – Seven Network
- New Zealand – TVNZ, Sky Television
- Europe – Discovery Communications, Eurosport
- Japan – Japan Consortium (NHK)
- Canada – CBC/Radio-Canada, Sportsnet, TSN
That is far from the full list, but we wanted to include a few options. Though the world coverage is nice, stations in other countries may cover different sports. Some channels and streaming services use geo-blocking to keep users from watching outside the country of origin. That means if you try to watch the games from outside of the channel’s region without using an Olympics VPN, you would be blocked. They do this by tracking your IP address. Using a VPN with a large network, you could gain access to your favorite channels and get around the geo-blocks.
Here is a list of some of the events and the dates you can expect to find in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Of course, you will want to check the times for your favorites. The events include 3×3 Basketball, Baseball, Archery, Badminton, Boxing, Cycling, Diving, Fencing, Football (soccer for the US), Golf, Handball, hockey, Judo, Karate, Rowing, Rugby, Tennis, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Shooting, Sailing, Gymnastics, Volleyball, Water Polo, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Swimming, and more.
