How to Watch MLS Matches from Anywhere

There are two main networks that will show coverage of the MLS season. For the sake these instructions, we will use ESPN2 via the ESPN+ streaming service.

  1. ExpressVPN US serversSign up for ExpressVPN (includes a 30 day risk-free money-back guarantee)
  2. Download and install the ExpressVPN app on your device. They offer apps for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and Firestick.
  3. Connect to a VPN server in the US so you can get coverage. Make sure to connect to a server outside of the local teams region for games covered by blackout restrictions.
  4. Enjoy live streaming access for your favorite MLS teams after logging into the ESPN+ website.
  5. If you have questions you can reach out to the ExpressVPN support team. They are there to help 24 hours a day.

This is an exciting year for MLS fans as the league signed a new contract with ESPN, Fox Sports and Univision. Instead of wondering when games will be broadcast this season will see regular scheduled broadcasts as follows:

  • ESPN2 – Sundays from 5:00pm to 7:00pm
  • Fox Sports 1 – Sundays from 7:00pm to 9:00 pm

This will provide fans with consistent coverage of featured games every week during the season. The new contract also brings more marketing for the league which should help the sport continue to grow in the US. Despite the length of time that soccer has been played in the US, the sport has not been as popular as others. Though that may change over the course of time, it is hard to imagine soccer overtaking one of the 3 major US sports.

This year, we’ll see if the New York City FC can defend the MLS Cup. Perhaps the LA Galaxy or your favorite team will make a run for the championship. The MLS is also welcoming a new expansion team this year, the Charlotte FC. Next season will see the addition of St. Louis City FC.

As we mentioned above, having a regular programming schedule on ESPN2 and Fox Sports 1 will ensure you don’t miss out on the biggest matches of the week. What happens if you happen to travel outside of the US or Canada during the season? That’s when things can get tricky. You can use WatchESPN to stream the games, but it’s only available to those in the US and Canada. That’s where a VPN comes in. When you connect to a VPN server in the US or Canada, it will assign you a local IP address. From there, you can fire up the ESPN app and enjoy. If you don’t have access to WatchESPN, you can get it in a streaming package available through ESPN+. Remember, you will want to connect to a VPN server in the United States to sign up.
