This year marks the 103rd season of FIFA soccer in the United States. We’ve written about the big international events like the World Cup, but this is our first time covering US soccer. The Major League Soccer (MLS) season will begin on March 6th and run through October 25th. The MLS Cup playoffs will begin on October 28th and last thru early December. Don’t miss a minute of the action. Watch MLS outside of the United States with a VPN. This will help you unblock any geo restrictions.

This is an exciting year for MLS fans as the league signed a new contract with ESPN, Fox Sports and Univision. Instead of wondering when games will be broadcast this season will see regular scheduled broadcasts as follows:
- ESPN2 – Sundays from 5:00pm to 7:00pm
- Fox Sports 1 – Sundays from 7:00pm to 9:00 pm
This will provide fans with consistent coverage of featured games every week during the season. The new contract also brings more marketing for the league which should help the sport continue to grow in the US. Despite the length of time that soccer has been played in the US, the sport has not been as popular as others. Though that may change over the course of time, it is hard to imagine soccer overtaking one of the 3 major US sports.
This year, we’ll see if the LA Galaxy can defend the MLS Cup. Perhaps the Seattle Sounders FC or your favorite team will make a run for the championship. The MLS is also welcoming two new expansion teams this year. The Orlando City SC (Lions) and New York City FC joined the action as part of the Eastern conference last year, which took the total number of teams to 20.
As we mentioned above, having a regular programming schedule on ESPN2 and Fox Sports 1 will ensure you don’t miss out on the biggest matches of the week. What happens if you happen to travel outside of the US or Canada during the season? That’s when things can get tricky. You can use WatchESPN to stream the games, but it’s only available to those in the US and Canada. That’s where a VPN comes in. When you connect to a VPN server in the US or Canada, it will assign you a local IP address. From there, you can fire up WatchESPN and enjoy. If you don’t have access to WatchESPN, you can get it in a streaming package available through Sling TV. Remember, you would need to use a VPN to sign up for Sling TV as well. If you haven’t tried it yet then you can sign up for a 7 day free trial.
The MLS will consist of 20 teams this year. Here’s a breakdown of the 10 teams in each conference:
Eastern Conference teams:
- Chicago Fire
- Columbus Crew SC
- D. C. United
- Montreal Impact
- New England Revolution
- New York City FC
- New York Red Bulls
