The IIHF World Championships were first played in 1936. Since then, viewers through the ages have enjoyed watching their favorite hockey players go head to head. Many hockey fans love the world championships, because it gives them a chance to see a mini version of the Olympics every year. Competitors are given medals as they are in the Olympics for first, second, and third place. As you can imagine, the best hockey players of the last 80 years have competed in the championships. Names like Wane Gretzky, Jaromir Jagr, Mario Lemieux, and even Gordie Howe have all graced the ice for the tournament.

Bratislava and Košice will host the 2019 IIHF World Championships. Those in Slovakia can visit the Ondrej Nepela Arena in Bratislava and the Steel Arena in Košice. The rest of us will be watching the action on TV. Though there will be several channels showing the games, most of them will be using geo-restrictions to block their broadcasts. In other words, if you are not located in the targeted area designated by the station, you will be stopped from watching those channels. You can avoid the geo restrictions by using a VPN.

The channel you want to watch often depends on which team you follow. Fans of the US team can watch all their games through NBCSN and their NBC Live Extra app. Those outside the US can watch on NBCSN if you have a friend’s cable or satellite log in. TSN will cover all the team Canada games. There are several broadcast partners to choose from, so you will want to check local listings for the best coverage of your favorite team.
