In 2014, the Internation Automobile Federation (FIA) held the Inaugural ePrix season. Electric cars have been around for many years. However, it has only been in the last several years that the technology has changed enough to enable it to happen. Advances from companies like Tesla have propelled electric cars back into the spotlight. Clearly, these are not the CitiCar electric vehicles from the 1970s.

Currently, the ePrix season does not have many races. That means that there is potential for more in the future. It is exciting to think of all the possibilities and advancements that will be discovered because of the ePrix series. Even if you are not a racing fan right now, the electric car market will only benefit from advances and breakthroughs made in this field. If you take a look the history of auto racing, you will quickly discover that many things we take for granted are a result of motorsports.

As you might guess, the ePrix has differences from normal open-wheel racing. There are currently 10 teams of drivers with 2 drivers each. However, more will join soon. Races take place on temporary street city circuits, which are between 1.2 to 2.1 miles long. Full power of the vehicles is listed at 180 kW. After some qualifying rounds, the race itself lasts for about 50 minutes with a mandatory pitstop to change cars. There are several other differences, but the FIA awards points based on standard practices. Let’s take a look at this season’s schedule.
