As for their military practices, they use light armor and carry average melee weapons. They also rely heavily on cavalry to get them through hard times. Their tactics are based on mobility and they are a very formidable foe to face.
- Midland: Midland is a conglomerate of federalism and patriarchy. The west and east sides of the midlands are individually ruled by two kings, though they work together to make one powerful nation. The people of the Midland are known as Midlanders. While not over six foot tall, they are still quite strong. The nation is very rich and because of this when in battle most people of the midlands wear full suits of armor as knights or warriors. Overall the nation is the wealthiest and they are not one to be messed with.
- Nordheim: Nordheim is a place whose government is run mostly by tribes and their leaders. The people of Nordheim are known as Ismirs. The Ismirs are tall and incredibly strong. Their lifestyle reflects on their size since they must be strong to survive in their homeland. They live to the north of the midlanders where it snows all of the time and there is nothing to see but mountains. As for their military practices, they are very experienced with two handed swords and axes. They are also great at using huge shields. The people who fight for Nordheim have been known as fearless warriors that should not be reckoned with.
- Sangmar: Sangmar was a very big and successful empire in the south until the Azebs came. They were almost destroyed but there is still hope. With the two cities the nation still has, the Sangmar empire will try to rise again. The Sangmar people are known as Sangmarians. They are very smart and do not live in as harsh of conditions as the Azebs. The army is very small now, but what is left of it includes brave warriors with very expensive gear and the noblest of steeds. The other empires better watch because the Sangmar might rise again.
Once you have chosen your nation and before you go out to slay your enemy you might need equipment. The equipment you have is up to you, but certain weapons and armor sets will help for certain fighting styles. The two types of equipment include armor and weapons
Armor:
- Light Armor: The armor is cheaper and leaves you quicker than you would be in heavy armor.
- Medium Armor: The armor costs more than light armor and it leaves you a little slower, but adds a lot more protection.
- Heavy Armor: The armor is very expensive and it slows you down a lot, but you will have great protection and momentum from the sheer weight of the armor.
Weapons:
- Close Combat Weapons: Swords are cheap in this category. It is easier to fight characters in close to you, but anyone with range on you has advantage.
- Polearms: Weapons that have a lot more range than close combat weapons, but not as much as ranged. One of the most popular weapons in this category is a lance.
- Ranged Weapons: Some of the most popular weapons in this category include longbows and crossbows. These weapons are truly powerful at a distance and they can kill many before they even get into attacking range, but if you are up close then you will be at a huge disadvantage.
After you have looked at your equipment you will probably go out and fight for the glory of your nation. Before you do this you might want to learn how the fighting mechanics work in Gloria Victis. Skill is a main portion of this game. You must learn how to attack, where to attack, and how to set up so you can get the killing blow. In Gloria Victis there is no targeting system so you can’t simply click on the opponent and then sit back and watch what happens. You must stay involved in the match constantly.
Along with this there are a lot of techniques you can use to win. While you are dodging, swinging your weapon, shooting your arrow, and running, you might want to look at the stamina bar. It is used to keep the game more realistic. You must keep your stamina in control. If you use too much stamina you might be left defenseless because you are so tired. You could also have more problems from the loss of stamina. There will eventually be jousting, single combat, hunting, and realm versus realm fighting. There are competitions and other things that can be played to test players skills.
Competitions/Sieges:
- Sieges: No matter if it is a castle, city, capital, or a town, this takes a army. The match will take hundreds of deaths and hard fighting to win.
- Tournaments: Test your skills in tournaments against others.
- PvP Arena: This is like a Roman Gladiator fight except in this you can use a chosen weapon. You better be at your best to win this type of match.
From all of these sieges, PvP’s, Tournaments, and free roaming you will find currency and items. The currency can buy you materials, equipment, and other things. The materials you get can help you gather supplies for crafting. The results can be used or even sold for a profit.
The different types of crafting include:
- Husbandry and Culinary Arts: cooking food
- Tailoring and Leatherworking: You can use the fur you obtain to craft items
- Armorsmithing: Create great pieces of armor
- Weapon Forging: Create great weapons
- Woodworking: Create furniture and bows
- Hunting and Forestry: Obtain fur and wood to sell to people that will make use of it
- Herbalism and Alchemy: Learn how to use plants for poison and medicine
- Mining and Metallurgy: Obtain raw materials like precious ore
- Artificing: Create accessories like jewelry
- Engineering: Create deadly defense mechanisms and offensive tools
One of the most important parts of the game is the weather cycle. I know you might be thinking that is ridiculous, but it is true. The weather impacts the player. You will encounter different NPC’s depending on the time of day, weather, and season. The enemies will also react differently as well. Seasons will change the weather, which affects the player in different ways. For example, it would be hard to fight in heavy armor in the heat of summer and the game will account for that. If you needed to sneak attack someone then you might wait for foggy weather to help you by giving you a perfect cover for a sneak attack. The moon’s position will also affect the tides along with unique monsters causing them to spawn.
